Sudden Heart Attack claims former board chairman M.V.Adkins
Funeral rites held Thursday for county leader who died at 72
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. for Marshall Vernon Adkins, 72, prominent figure in Fond du Lac county public affairs and agricultural enterprises, who died suddenly Monday afternoon at his farm home northwest of Ripon following a heart attack. Final rites were held at the Adkins home and burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery.
He had not been ill prior to his death, having carried on his farm duties during the day.
Widely known throughout the state as well as in the county, Mr. Adkins had been a member of the county board for 17 years, seven of which he served as its chairman. He also was chairman of the children's code board, president of the Production Credit association, chairman of the county Triple A and for a period of seven years was a member of the board of education in Ripon. He also was an early member of the highway commission.
Mr. Adkins spent the greater part of his life as a public servant and a promoter of agricultural work, giving much of his time to welfare activities. Born June 13, 1870, in Ripon, he lived here all of his life with the exception of a short residence in Chicago. He was a son of the late Chester and Elizabeth Limbert Adkins, pioneers of the community. His father was one of 19 men who founded in 1844 Fourierite Community at Ceresco.
Educated in the Ripon schools, Mr. Adkins later attended a business college in Chicago. He was married on April 4, 1901 to Miss Minnie Burr of Ripon, who with a son, Chester of Milwaukee, and a daughter, Mrs. Edward Saphner of Rosendale, survives. Two grandchildren, Lois Ann and Rita Saphner, are also survivers.
