Frederick, born in Prussia, immigrated from Germany, arriving in the Port of New York in December of 1866. He made his way to Wisconsin and found farm land there. On November 5, 1870 he formerly registered his intent to become a US citizen and he became a naturalized citizen on November 16, 1886 in Shawano, Wisconsin.

Augusta immigrated from Germany in 1868, two years after her husband.

The couple settled on farmland in Hartland, Shawano Co., Wisconsin, near the larger town of Bonduel.

They had four children born there; August Charles 1875-1940, Wilhelm Frederick 1876-1962, Emma Augusta 1879-1977 and Martha 1882-1947. A fifth child died in infancy.

Fred and Augusta were able to remain on their farm until they passed, as their son August remained on the farm, and at age 44, still hadn't married.
