Alliance - Arthur Knight Barnes

Arthur Knight Barnes born to Ellen (Knight) and Frank Barnes on July 7, 1922, in Altoona, Pa., went home to be with his Lord on Aug. 29 at 12:45 p.m. surrounded by loved ones at Alliance Community Hospital.

Art was proud to serve his country as a United States Marine Sergeant, in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Receiving his degree in engineering at Pittsburgh University, Art worked at Alliance Machine Company for 30 years as an engineer designing cranes used all over the world. He also worked as the managing engineer for O.E.M. out of Salem before retiring to Florida with his wife, Sally.

Art was a member of the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Port Charlotte, Fla., and found great joy in the fellowship of his family in Christ. Art was also a 3rd. Degree Master Mason and Knights Templar member of Steubenville Commandery No. 11.

He was preceded in death by this parents; brothers, John and Bill Barnes; sister, Lavonnus Russell; a grandson Alex Barnes; and his beloved parents-in-law, Fred and Lucy (Owen) Weizenecker.

Survivors include his much loved wife, Sally (Weizenecker) Barnes of the home; children, Arthur K. (Debbie) Barnes II of North Benton, Tracy D. (Chip) Wingard of Sebring, Serene K. (Todd) McDaniel of Alliance, Shannon F. (Connie) Barnes of North Port, Fla., Allison K. (Jeff) Mercier of Dayton, Kelly R. (David) Rastetter of Akron and Elizabeth E. (Erik) Lesco of Massillon; and a nephew, William (Deanie) Russell of Spring, TexasGrandchildren Alicia Barnes, T.J. and Heath Rayl, Brandon, Hunter and Carrie Barnes, Katie and Kelsey Loiselle, Lucas McDaniel, Jared, Clayton, Corinna and Spencer Barnes, Joshua, Rachael, Nathan and Rebecca Mercier, Regan, Caleb, Noah, Bethany, Moses, Lily, Jesse, Malachi, Levi and Charity Rastetter, and Ethan Lesco will miss their pappy.

Friends may call on the family at Gednetz-Ruzek Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. Friday and on Saturday at 1 p.m. for a memorial service with the Rev. Phil Sheffield from the Lighthouse Baptist Church officiating. There will also be a gathering of friends and family following the memorial service on Saturday at Bethel United Church of Christ on Buck Road in Beloit.

Art was a wonderful father, husband and friend, and he loved all of us very well. He loved the warm climate of the tropics and had wonderful memories of living there and sailing the ocean. He was a gentlemans gentleman and took great care of his wife and family. Though his presence will be missed, his life will be celebrated by his family and friends and all the wonderful memories we have for the rest of our lives.
