On 27 December 1901, a marriage license was issued to Arthur (age 21) and Nannie P. Funge (age 20) in San Francisco. (San Francisco Call, 28 December 1901, page 13) Their first child, Arthur Funge, was born in 1902 in Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz County, California. Their second child, Delmer Lawrence, was born in 1904 in San Francisco. Their third child, Lester Brent, was born in 1906 in Ocean Park, Santa Monica County, California. In 1908, the family moved to Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California where their last child, Margaret Mildred, was born in 1918.
Sometime before 1920, Arthur started his career as a merchant in the wholesale millinery business. By 1920 he was the proprietor of a large Los Angeles store, Maxime’s. He became a prominent social and civic leader in the community.
On 31 May 1933, while on business in New York City, Arthur died at a New York hospital. His death notice reads: “Services Monday, June 5, at 2 p.m. at St. Matthias Episcopal Church, Washington and Normandie.” (The Los Angeles Times, Sunday, 4 June 1933, page 24) He was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, Los Angeles County, California.
