Elizabeth Chandler Adams, 96, of Asheville died peacefully at her home on Tuesday April 29, 2014. Elizabeth was born on April 14, 1918 in Tennessee and married her husband, Joe Greene Adams, Sr. on July 3, 1940. She was preceded in death by her husband; her father, Beaty Chandler; her mother, Edith Peel Chandler; and was the last surviving sibling of six brothers and one sister.
Elizabeth is survived her son Joe Greene Adams, Jr., and his life partner, Lisa Swaim, of Asheville; her son John Chandler Adams and his wife Nancy Skinner Adams; granddaughters Rachel Morgan Adams and Sarah Kathryn Adams of Asheville; a sister-in-law Jeanne Chandler of Knoxville, TN; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth attended the University of Tennessee and lived her life joyously in Swannanoa and Asheville. She loved raising and riding horses with her family. She worked at Moore General Hospital in Asheville and volunteered at Memorial Mission Hospital. She attended Groce United Methodist Church and Central United Methodist Church, and taught Sunday school for many years. She loved the Lord and enjoyed recording religious speakers and distributing cassette tapes of their programs.
