Lady Gwendoline Catherine Talbot was the daughter of John Talbot, 16th Earl of Shrewsbury and his wife, Maria Teresa Talbot. She was described by King William IV as the "greatest beauty in the realm".

Lady Gwendoline was married in Rome on May 11, 1835 to Don Marcantonio, Principe Borghese, 8th Duca di Sulmona. Her sister, Lady Mary Alathea Beatrix Talbot, married Principe Don Filippo Doria-Pamphili-Landi, a member of another prestigious Roman noble family.

Her only child, Donna Agnese Borghese (1836-1920), married Principe Don Rodolfo Boncompagni-Ludovisi, 8th Principe di Piombino.
