Bill graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1965 where he excelled in various varsity sports. He then became a foreign exchange student in Helsinki, Finland for a year where he fell in love with that part of the world. Over the years, he ended up spending a lot of time in Finland, Sweden and Estonia. In 1967, Bill moved to Angola, IN to attend Tri State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering with Honors. After graduating from college, he joined the United States Army where he became a captain and commanded the US Army Detachment NATO Liaison Team in Kellinghusen, Germany. After returning to the United States, he had various business ventures until he decided to follow his dream of becoming a lawyer. In 2000, he graduated from Franklin Pierce Law School. Bill passed the bar exam in 2000 and subsequently opened his own practice in Conroe, TX. During his life, Bill had a large variety of interests. He enjoyed golf, traveling, flying, horseback riding, playing the guitar and keeping current with the latest technological advances. He had a great sense of humor and a hearty laugh that was contagious.
Bill is survived by his four children, Liisa Piper Bartges and husband James of State College, PA; William T. Piper III of Sacramento, CA; Meghan M. Piper of San Jose, CA; Lauren J. Piper of Los Angeles, CA; his brother, John R. Piper and wife Charlene of North East, PA; a nephew and niece along with an aunt and several cousins. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his infant daughter Maria J. Piper and his brother Thomas F. Piper, Jr.
Memorial services will be held Saturday October 5, 2013 in the Piper Aviation Museum, 1 Piper Way, Lock Haven, PA 17745. The immediate family will be receiving family and friends starting at 10am. Services will begin at 11am followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to The Piper Aviation Museum. His children would also like to say thank you to the medical staff at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
