Mrs. MATTIE JANE (MYERS) MATHIS is the daughter of George Mills and Mrs. Mollie (Hunter) Mills.

She is the wife of Elijah Mathis whom she married on December 2, 1919 in Marion County, Texas.

To this union, seven children were born. Their children include two sons: Wilbert Louis and Charles Ray; and five daughters: Allie, Elma Lois, Lillie V., Irene and Evelyn.

"Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Jane Mathis will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Gethsemane Methodist Church, in Jefferson, with the Rev. M.H. Guinn officiating. Burial will be in the Core Cemetery under the direction of the Marion County Funeral Home. The daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Myers, she was born February 10, 1899, in Marion County. She joined the Gethsemane Methodist Church, in Jefferson at an early age, and she remained a member there until her death. She was a member of the mission at the church. Mrs. Mathis also belonged to the Bethsheba No. 136 O.E.S. for which she had served as secretary. On December 2, 1919, she married Elijah Mathis, in Jefferson. Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Allie R. Sanders and Mrs. Lillie V. Nimmer, both of Richmond, California, Mrs. Elma L. Guinn, of Hayward, California, Mrs. Evelyn Lang, of Los Angeles, California, and Mrs. Irene Brown, of Kildare; two sons, Charles R. Mathis, of Richmond, and Wilbert Mathis, of Houston; 26 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 p.m. Saturday until time for the funeral."
