While serving his four years he returned to Texas to marry his childhood sweetheart and the love of his life, Mary K. Goodjohn, Jan. 14, 1946. Darrell moved his wife and four children to Las Vegas in 1960, to accept a position as chief engineer at Nevada Baking Co. and remained until his retirement in 1991.
Although enjoying his family and other sports he was now able to pursue the second love of his life, "golf". He often said he wanted to accomplish three things, 1. be married to Mary for 50 years, (did that); 2. shoot a hole in one, (did that); 3. shoot a score equal to his age, (two out of three isn't bad).
Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Cleo and Ruby Massey; brothers, C.W. and Herschel Massey; little sister, Vicie; and beloved wife, of 58 years, Mary. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Sherry Massey, and Lanny and Linda Massey; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Mark Heese; daughter, Teresa Massey; nine grandsons, six granddaughters, 12 great-grandsons, five great-granddaughters; stepmother, Alma Massey; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robbie and Evelyn Massey, Roy and LaVon Massey, and Charles and Cheryl Massey; sisters, Barbara Tabner and Marilyn Maldonado; sisters-in-law, Catherine and Carolyn Massey; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in laws and countless friends, all whom he loved dearly.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, July 7. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 8, both at Palm Mortuary, 6701 N. Jones Blvd.
