Joseph A. Mader
WE retiree was longtime usher at St. Joseph's
Joseph A. Mader, East Lackawannock Township, formerly of Reed Street, Sharon, passed away at 6 a.m. Saturday (5-24-03) in Countryside Convalescent Home, East Lackawannock Township. He was 88.
Mr. Mader was born Oct. 3, 1914, in Tuxedo Park, N.Y. to Michael Mader and Barbara Fedor Mader.
Educated in Tuxedo Park, he moved to Sharon in 1936.
Joe retired as a welder in 1977 from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., where he had been employed for 40 years.
He was an active member of St. Joseph's Church in Sharon, where he was an usher from 1937 to 1990 and a volunteer bingo worker for more than 30 years. He was also a member of the Russian Club Lodge 658 in Sharon; and the Westinghouse Retirees Association.
An avid bowler, Joe bowled in the Thursday Night Mixed Couples League and the St. Michael's League, both at Thornton Hall Lanes in Sharon.
He enjoyed fishing with his wife at the Shenango Reservoir and at Pymatuning Lake.
His wife, the former Elizabeth "Betty" M. Svirbly, whom he married Nov. 25, 1935, passed away on Aug. 23, 1998.
Surviving are: one daughter, Mrs. Earl (Betty A.) Bour, Hermitage; two sons, Joseph M. Mader and his wife Darlene, Sumpter, S.C.; and Martin M. Mader and his wife Mary, West Chester, Pa.; and one brother, John Modder, Tuxedo Park.
Joe also leaves 12 grandchildren, John, Martin and Andrew Bour, Barbara Chicca and Sherry Lenahan; and Joseph C., Robert, Larry, Dawn Marie, Michael, Mary Lou and Monique Mader; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Michael Mader; and a sister, Ann Moran.
