LAKE CITY -- A funeral Mass for Clarence Hubert Arendt will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake City, with the Rev. James Russell officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Bellechester. Mr. Arendt, 93, of Lake City, a retired farmer, died Wednesday morning (Nov. 15, 2000) at Lake City Hospital-Mayo Health System. He was born Nov. 13, 1907, in Chester Township, Wabasha County, and attended a Chester Township rural school. On Oct. 14, 1936, he married Cecilia M. Reiland at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Mazeppa. They lived on the Arendt family farm in Chester Township until moving to Lake City in 1972. Mr. Arendt was a longtime member of the Bellechester Knights of Columbus, Farm Bureau and Wabasha County ARC. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake City and a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bellechester. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. Survivors include three daughters, Patricia (Richard) Heilman of Austin, Texas, Nancy (James) Carnago of Romeo, Mich., and Mary (Philip) Kalu of Ann Arbor, Mich.; eight sons, David (Susan) of Middleton, Wis., Donald (Phyllis) of Decorah, Iowa, Robert (Sally) of Winlock, Wash., William (Linda) of Wabasha, Timothy and Gary, both of Lake City, and Mark (Kathi) and Anthony (Renee), both of Mazeppa; 34 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Leonard (Bertha) of Bellechester. He was preceded in death by his wife; two grandchildren; five brothers and three sisters. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel, and an hour before the service Saturday at the church. The rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
