Hattie Belle Cazzell Forest wrote her memories of her Cazzell ancestors living in the settlement of what became known as Cazzell in the above mentioned area. "My mother and brothers died of spinal meningitis. No one else of our family came down with it. But there were many, many others who did in Chariton Bottoms and thirteen died. I can remember five doctors standing around Mama's bed. Then two weeks later my brother Joseph died and they were buried in a family graveyard on the farm."
