Sophia FitzClarence was the eldest daughter of Prince William, Duke of Clarence, the future King William IV, by his longtime mistress, Dorothea Jordan. She was married on August 13, 1825 to Philip Sidney, who was raised to the peerage as Baron De L'Isle and Dudley, of Penshurst in the County of Kent, in 1835.
