Private graveside services will be Tuesday, April 28, 2020, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Reverend Jeff Rasnick will officiate.
Due to the Coronvirus pandemic, visitation will be Monday from 12 noon until 4 PM. People can come by to pay their respects, sign the register book, view the slide show, and obtain a memorial record. No more than 10 people at a time will be allowed in the funeral home. The family will not be present.
He was born May 2, 1938, in Shelbyville, to the late Vasco Amerigo Edwards, Sr. and Betty Erlaine Bragg Edwards. A 1956 graduate of Shelbyville Central High School, Mr. Edwards was Bedford County Sheriff from 1982-1994. Following his law enforcement career, he owned and operated Don's Pawn and Gun from 1995-2013. A former member of the Tennessee National Guard, he held membership in the Breakfast Rotary Club and First Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Selene Edwards, V.A. Edwards, Jr., Tom Lyn Edwards, Bobby Edwards, G.W. Edwards, Delaney Edwards, Clyde Avery Edwards, and Bryant Edwards.
Survivors include his wife, Billie Jean Hurt Edwards, of Shelbyville and they would have celebrated their 64 wedding anniversary June 1st.; children, Ralph Edwards, and his wife Sharon, of the Deason Community, Donna Nixon, Debbie Simons, and her husband Wayne, and Phillip Edwards, and his wife Dana, all of Shelbyville; a brother, Frank Edwards; grandchildren, Kristen (Joseph) Coriano, Jenna (Joshua) Henderson, Sara Elizabeth (Stephen) Clifford, Shannon (Robin) Sharma, Daniel Floyd, Michael (Jennifer) Simons, Nicholas (Heather) Simons, Christopher (Nicole) Simons, Matthew (Amber) Simons, Jason (Stephanie) Simons, Sydnee Edwards, Aiden Edwards, and Ryan Edwards; 31 great grandchildren.
Don would be honored with memorials to the Alzheimer's Association and/or Hospice Compassus.
