BOWIE, Md. — Fredrick Hosea Herring, 83, of Bowie, Md., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 18, 2020.
Fred was born in Elkview, son of the late Orville C. Herring and Edith Lee Herring.
He graduated from Kingwood High School in 1955. After high school, he joined the United States Navy and was stationed in Republic of Formosa. After the service, he moved to Maryland and attended business school. After business school, he began work for the gas company. He was an entrepreneur with his own business prior to retirement. Mr. Herring was a member of the Catholic Church and very active with the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed the game of golf and was a former member of the Preston Country Club in Kingwood. He and his wife enjoyed cruises and travel to other countries.
Fred is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carol; his son, Frederick Paul Herring; daughter, Carla Ann Daubner and four grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a brother, William O. Herring; a sister, Mary Lou Marrara and sister-in-law, Helen Soccorsi Herring.
Mr. Herring was preceded in death by his siblings, James P. Herring (Elkview), Charles E. Herring (Yuma, Ariz.) and Eloise Holsinger (Kingwood); as well as his brothers-in-law, Larocque (Tim) Holsinger and Robert S. Marrara.
At Fred's requests, he will be cremated. The family plans a memorial service at a later date.
