Adam Ray Sanders “A-Train” 38, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, came to us on August 27th 1981, and left us on April 24, 2020. He was loved by many and gone entirely too soon.

Adam was born to Jerry & Deb Sanders of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Adam was a hardworking, fun loving & caring person who touched so many lives. He left all who knew him with so many memories to share!

A public visitation will be held at a later date at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home with Inurnment at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel where full military rites will be conducted by the Iowa Army Honor Guard.

Adam attended school in Cedar Rapids at Jefferson High School with his lifelong best friend Eric Hamann. Adam graduated in 2000.

Adam worked as a top hand on towers since 2004. He worked for Tri State Tower, Tower Services, Proximo & most recently Watermann Communications.

Adam loved climbing towers, where he met Chad Aldrich (Debbie), they quickly became best friends. Even being the best man in Chad and Debbie’s wedding with a black eye!

Adam proudly served his country for over 20 years in the Iowa Army National Guard. He was in the Charlie 224th Signal Battalion, Bravo Company 1-133 INF BN and most recently Charlie Company 1-133 INF BN. He served 2 tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and was to deploy again this year. This wasn’t work to him, he loved serving his country and loved being infantry.

Adam enjoyed life! The Iowa Hawkeyes, clothing shopping, ordering online different & expensive things that he did not need. You never knew what was going to come in the mail!

He had a passion for working out, video games and his “immediate blood family” as he called Sasha Mary Ann, Z and Q.

He had to have the best of the best and so did they (why have a hamburger when you can have a steak, or why not both)! He ate different kinds of food (if you had to ask Adam if he was hungry, you really did not know who he was) & wine, spending time with his buddies Eric, Chad, Shane & his brother Aaron.

Most of all he loved fiancé Sasha Zimmerman and her boys Zaine & Quintyn, they are Adams' world. “I'll tell you how I know he loved the crap out of Sasha and that Neanderthal didn't love anything.” What he wanted most in life was to make sure his family was taken care of and happy. Adam absolutely loved providing for them & making sure they had nothing but the best. It didn’t matter if you just met him or knew him for years, you knew about his family & knew he was all about them!

You also knew that Kratos was pretty much a human baby. His “princess” Kratos, the family’s loyal PTSD companion. He had the BEST dog food, it was to be only the most expensive food he could find, mixed a certain way, in an automatic feeder & you wouldn’t dare think about giving Kratos human food. Adam would be mad is an understatement.

Adam is survived by his parents Jerry and Deb Sanders, brother Aaron Sanders (Donna) of Texas, Fiancée Sasha Zimmerman, her two boys Zaine and Quintyn. Nephew Noah and niece Alyssa. Adam will also be forever remembered by his extended family and friends.

“A hero is someone who understands the responsibility that comes with his freedom”
“I did my duty, I paid the supreme price. I pray you’ll remember, my sacrifice. My life was short, I did my best. God grant me peace, in my eternal rest”

If you know someone struggling with P.T.S.D. don’t wait to get them help. “To talk to about your demons does not mean you’re weak, it means you are stronger than your darkest hour” – Lt COL Yackely. Suicide prevention number 1-800-273-8255.
