BETTY ELAINE (MULLENIX) ABBOTT passed away on April 4, 2020 just two days before her 91st birthday at the Memory Care Unit of Fahrney-Keedy Home in Boonsboro, MD. Born April 6, 1929 in Hagerstown, MD, she was the 13th child of the late Charles H. Mullenix and Esta M. (Vinson) Mullenix.

During her school days at Washington Street School, she excelled in spelling. She graduated from ninth grade at Woodland Way Junior High School, where she loved playing basketball. She continued to play basketball at Hagerstown High School. She married the love of her life, Garland E. Abbott, on August 14, 1946. They were married 53 years. He passed away in September 1999. Betty had a strong work ethic and started her first job cleaning homes at age 12. She later worked at People’s Drug Store, Joseph Love Factory, Fairchild, L’Aiglon Apparel, and then retired in 1991 from Angstrom Precision after 29 years. Betty was a member of Queen Esther Chapter No. 3 O.E.S.

Betty is survived by her two daughters, Judy E. Peiffer and Patti E. Lewis; and four grandchildren, Laura Lewis Mir, Jennifer Peiffer Hanlon, Christopher J. Peiffer and Kelly Lewis Frank. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Doriane Mir, Lucas Mir, Samantha Frank and Sadie Frank; and one stepgreat-grandson, Keaton Hanlon, who is serving in the United States Air Force.

Betty is now survived by only one sibling, Doris Pitsnogle; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held privately.
