Marilyn Louise Abner, 77, of Wallins, passed from this life on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 following an illness. She was born June 18, 1937 in Decatur, IL. Marilyn was retired from a career with the Internal Revenue Service, but she didn’t stop there. After several years of volunteer service at Christ's Hands, she held the position as kitchen manager for several more years. This worked out good because Marilyn enjoyed cooking as well as helping others.
A member of the Wallins Christian Church, she was a devout Christian and well versed in the Bible. Marilyn loved to read, and she made good use of the local library. She was also known to enjoy walks on the beach and an occasional horseback ride.
Marilyn’s favorite place to sit was her front porch swing. Not long before leaving this world, she was sharing a snack with one of her beloved pets, while enjoying that seat.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frosty and Pearl Jones; by her husband, Bill Abner; and by five siblings.
Survivors include four children: Randy Abner and wife Debbie, of Totz; Reva Campbell and husband David, of Prospect; Larna Bowman and husband Cecil, of Crestview Hills; Theo Abner, and significant other Sharon Seeger, of Michigan; a sister, Sharon Wise, of Michigan; six grandchildren, Chris Abner, Candice Brackett, Gretchen Campbell, Savannah Campbell, Amanda Burton and Tiffany Bell; and by four great-grandchildren, Jacob Bell, Gavin Bell, Jack Burton and Alec Burton.
Visitation will be from 1-3 pm Saturday, Nov. 8, at Harlan Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow at 3 pm at Harlan Funeral Home.
Burial will take place at 1 pm Sunday, Nov. 9, at Hill Crest Cemetery in Dry Ridge, KY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Christ’s Hands, 112 Railroad St., Harlan, KY 40831.
Harlan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
