Katie Garcia, born April 17, 1932 in Rome, NY, went home to be with the Lord on December 29, 2010 surrounded by family and friends at her bedside. She worked at a dress factory and later worked and modeled for Nelson’s Department Store in Rome, NY before marrying Lt. Col. Manuel C. “Gus” Garcia. Together they raised 5 children. As the wife of a USAF officer for 31 years, she often raised her family alone during times of her husband’s deployment and she made everyplace they were assigned feel like home for her family. Katie dedicated her life to Jesus Christ and served Him with her giftings of Hospitality, giving and volunteering in Children’s ministries. She was a member of Kennewick 1st Assembly of God. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and Italian cook. She will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gus; parents, Antonio Montana and Giuseppina Cervo Montana; brothers, Anthony Montana and John Montana; sisters, Dorothy Curling and Madeline Collier. She is survived by her sons, Col. Wayne Garcia (Shirley) of Brandenburg, Kentucky, Manuel Garcia (Rebecca) of Kennewick, WA, Rev. Jason Garcia (Kristi) of Alpharetta, GA, Tim Garcia (Lisa) of Colleyville, TX; daughter, Lisa Hempel (Rev. Richard) of Kennewick, WA; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, David Montana of Camden, NY; Sisters, Theresa Grenier of Oneida, NY, Agnes Nickerson and Annabelle Chadborne of Rome, NY. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 PM, Sunday, January 2nd, 2011, at Prayer Watch Christian Center 602 S. Washington St. Kennewick, WA 99336. Graveside services will be held Monday, January 3rd, 10:00 a.m., at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, 10th and Union Street in Kennewick. The Katie Garcia Children’s Relief Fund has been set up in her honor. Donations may be received at The Bridge Church, 2105 Newpoint Place, Lawrenceville, GA 30046.
