John Button, born 1749 or 1756 in Westerly, Rhode Island; died December 14, 1846 in Brookfield, Madison County, New York and is buried on the old Button Farm on Button Hill. He married Betsey Palamatter or Anna Palmer, born 1747; died 1840, age 93. He moved with his bachelor brother from Rhode Island to Brookfield, New York in 1792, locating there on lot 82.

John Button and family and Master Elias, as his brother was commonly called, lived and died on the farm now owned by Mr. Gilbert on Button Hill. They were buried on the hillside above the house, but that cemetery has been ploughed over and nothing remains to mark their burial place.
