Don José Maria Muñoz y Borbón, Conde de Gracia, Visconde de La Arboleda, was the youngest child of Maria Christina, Regent of Spain, and of her morganatic husband, Agustín Fernando Muñoz, 1st Duke of Riánsares, and the half-brother of Queen Isabella II of Spain. His mother was queen consort of Spain from 1829 to 1833 and regent of the Kingdom from 1833 to 1840, by virtue of her marriage to Ferdinand VII, King of Spain. She was the daughter of Francis I, King of the Two Sicilies, by his second wife, Maria Isabella of Spain, and was a niece of her first husband, the Spanish king.
