A man who slept in the same room with the body of the woman he told Las Vegas police he killed was ordered held without bail Friday.
Tobey Gibeson, 40, who faces one count of open murder, told Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Ann Zimmerman that he had seen a doctor in the Clark County Detention Center since his arrest Wednesday, but he was not receiving proper medication.
He told police his female roommate, Gail Stepien, 51, slapped him the night of April 17. He reacted and punched her, according to a police report, and the blow dropped her to the floor. He then hit her over the head with a whiskey bottle, hit her in the face and "stomped her on the face until she was dead," the report stated.
Gibeson changed his clothes when he noticed he had blood on them, the report said, and went drinking at the nearby Eastside Cannery Casino. He came back to the apartment four hours later and touched Stepien's arm, and she felt cold, he told police in the report. That's when he knew she was dead.
So he wrapped her in the sheet he pulled off an air mattress, the report said, and went to sleep.
He called police from a pay phone in front of Metro's headquarters, 400 S. Martin Luther King Blvd., to admit what he had done, police said.
Gibeson claimed to be a 12-year military veteran with four doctorates, according to the report. He also told officers that he has been hearing voices for the past two years and that his blood was actually pink, not red.
