Charles H. Segraves, Jr., age 80 of Hessville passed away Sunday, August 7, 2005.Survived by his loving wife, Bettye (nee Goss) of 59 years; one daughter, Shelley Crosby of Chicago, IL; four grandchildren: Megan Crosby of Chicago, Erin Crosby of Brooklyn, NY, Scott Crosby of Avon, IN and Jerry Crosby of Schererville, one brother, Don (Josie) Seagraves of Munster; several nieces and nephews including Donald Seagraves and Charlotte Shosey. He was preceded in death by son, Richard Segraves and two sisters, Betty Jean McGartland and Robbie Jean Guzzo.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 10, at 10 a.m. directly from Covenant Presbyterian Church at 6709 Arizona Avenue, Hessville with Pastor James A. Thomson officiating. Burial, Elmwood Cemetery, Hammond. Friends are invited to meet at the Bocken Funeral Home,7042 Kennedy Avenue, Hammond (Hessville, Indiana) on Tuesday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Mr. Segraves was a resident of the Calumet area since 1946, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church for over 50 years where he was a member of the Faith United Sunday School Class. He worked for LTV Steel and he retired in 1986 after 38 years working as a general foreman in the Maintenance Division of the Blooming Mill. He loved to garden and he enjoyed woodworking. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Calumet Area or Covenant Presbyterian Church.
