Samuel Willis Gossard was born in Ross county, Ohio, April 8, 1844 and passed away at his home in Chana. He was married to Martha Tilton on October 6, 1876. He is survived by his aged wife and son, Ben Gossard and one daughter, Mrs. Howard Flear, of Puyallup, Washington. "Uncle Willis" as he was commonly called was a civil war veteran being a member of Regiment 23, Co. A. Iowa. H has served as commander of the G.A.R. Post in Rochelle. Funeral services were held at the home in Chana Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with burial in the Chapel Hill cemetery.
