Singer. An original member and founder of the musical group, 'The Chordettes' that were very popular during the 1940s, 1950s, and early 1960s. The group formed in 1946, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and included Nancy Overton, Carol Buschman, Janet Ertel, Lynn Evans, Margie Needham, Dorothy Schwatz, and of course Osborn. The group went onto have many popular hits including "Mister Sandman" "Lollipop" and "Never On Sunday" which reached the Top Twenty in 1961, and there last big hit. They recorded on many record labels including Columbia, Collectables, Ace Cadence, CBS, and worked with the likes of Arthur Godfrey. There other recordings include "Born To Be With You," "Eddie My Love," "True Love Goes On And On," and "Just Between You And Me," among many others. After the breakup of the group in 1961, Osborn became a member of the Tiempo De Los Ninos, Mission Hills Country Club, and Our Saviors Community Church, all in her later years. She was born Virginia Ann Cole. She was first married to Otis B. Osborn, then to Tom Lockard, and finally to Samuel P. Janis. During her time with The Chordettes, she was known as either "Jinny Osborn" or "Jinny Lockard." She was "Jinny Janis" at the time of her death in 2003.
