Antonio M. Alfonso, age 78, of Sewickley, passed peacefully at Heritage Valley Sewickley on Thursday, May 21, 2020. He was born in Pasig Rizal, Philippines on March 14, 1942 to the late Mariano S. and Cristeta (Marquez) Alfonso. Tony is survived by his wife of 53 years, Benilda "Ibie" (Limjuco) Alfonso; his cherished sons: Anthony (Cynthia Walentosky) Alfonso and Noel L. Alfonso; loving sisters Annie (the late Nestor) Virata, Vicky (Payne) Chow and Alice (Eddie) Jose; also several nieces and nephews. Generous and hospitable, Tony will be remembered as kind, gentle hearted, a man who loved his family in his quiet ways. Tony graduated from Mapua Institute of Technology in the Philippines with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. He worked in the Highway Department in the Bureau of Public Highways in the Philippines. He came to the U.S. in 1967 and worked as a Structural Engineer. Tony had a strong faith and was an active member at St. James Church, where he was an usher and helped with the Elegant Junk sale held in July. He was a true example of faith in action. He was Project Director and Treasurer of the PA Chapter of the World of Hope Foundation, a charitable organization helping the poor and needy children in the Philippines, India, and Mexico. He traveled to India to evaluate the projects in the Diocese of Eluru. He volunteered at Faith In Action at the YMCA, an organization taking elderly to their doctor's appointments. Serving meals for the Center for Hope in Ambridge. Tony had an appreciation for sports, playing basketball in college, bowling in his younger years, playing golf with friends and with his sons. He also enjoyed a good game of chess or playing poker. He loved his yard, feeding the birds, squirrels, and his feral cat. Visitation will be at Copeland's Sewickley (following the CDC guidelines for COVID-19); 702 Beaver St. Mass will be held at Divine Redeemer Parish and entombment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations to the Divine Redeemer Parish, 200 Walnut St., Sewickley, PA 15108
