Tommie walked to the Krenek Country School in Crosby his first two years, then in 1926, the model T-Ford school buses arrived. The country school was done away with and he attended the town school. He graduated from Crosby High School in 1936 and was captain of all four sports his senior year. The whole student body liked him and he liked all of them, especially the girls! His father worked very hard to see to it that his children had a good education. Tommie went to the University of Texas. While there, he ran track and cross country. In April of 1951, Tommie moved to Danbury to farm with his uncle, Joe Skrabanek. Five years later, their son, Harold, was born. Tommie and Gladys truly enjoyed life. The met friends for an evening at Vrazel’s Ballroom, attended sports events, deer hunted, traveled and enjoyed spending time with the family.
