An unidentified contributor left the following in the data field for the inscription . . . "This woman is buried in my own families burial plot, next to my great-grandmother and father Minnie and Frank Polk. Family legend states that when she passed away a collection was taken up because she was so loved by the community. My family donated the plot and others money for the headstone. She was a former slave and may not have known her real birthday or last name. I have no other information that I can provide. My 73 year old mother took pictures of the headstone and it is one of the most ornate in the cemetery."

Aunt Abbie born in North Carolina over 90 years ago.
Amiable, she won all,
Intelligent, she charmed all,
Fervent, she loved all,
And dead, she saddened all.
