Kenneth C. Abrahamson, age 87, died peacefully at home on September 7, 2019 after several years of decline due to Alzheimer’s Disease.

Born in Providence, R.I. on October 25, 1931, Kenneth was the only son of Charles E. Abrahamson and Hilma E. (Olson) Abrahamson.

Kenneth was predeceased by his older sister Eleanor V. (Abrahamson) Rayhill and his younger sister Anna A. (Abrahamson) Sullivan.

The early years of Kenneth’s life were spent growing up in Cranston. He enjoyed being part of church youth groups and was a crossing guard at Hugh B. Bain School. Kenneth was an honor student when he graduated from Cranston High School.

In 1952 Kenneth married his high school sweetheart, Doris May Moretti.

Then patriotic duty separated the newlyweds for a while. The Korean Conflict had begun and Kenneth served in the United States Army: active duty in Korea from October 1952 thru August 1954. He was released as a Corporal with an Honorable discharge.

Kenneth returned to civilian life and it was not long before he and Doris May had their daughter Donna. A few years later their son Eric was born.

After a few short-term employment positions, Kenneth took some chemistry classes at CCRI and found his career position at Kenney Manufacturing in Warwick. In recognition for his 25 years of service in their electroplating department, he was honored with a gold watch. Kenneth continued working there until his retirement.

In the 1960s when he moved to Jamestown Kenneth became active in the community. He joined the Jamestown Shores Association offering his service in the positions of treasurer and then president. He joined the Lion’s Club and held positions of leadership there, but also showed support to the other local clubs in town by attending their special functions and fundraisers.

Kenneth was appointed to serve the town on the Zoning Board of Review. Following that, he served on the Jamestown Town Council. Due to his willingness to listen to the population at large, Kenneth was well respected and reelected a few terms in a row. As Town Council President he was one of the groundbreakers for the Jamestown Verrazano Bridge.

Kenneth is survived by his daughter Donna J. (Abrahamson) Cote and her husband Mark A. Cote, their sons Mark, Gabriel and Aaron, Kenneth’s son Eric A. Abrahamson and his wife Meiyun, and Eric’s two sons Steven and Christopher. Kenneth also leaves three great grandsons and one great granddaughter.
A funeral service was held Thursday, September 12, in the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown. Burial with Military Funeral Honors was private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Providence Rescue Mission, 627 Cranston Street, Providence, Rhode Island 02907.
