Don O. Rabern
RABERN, Don O- Age 78, of Aloha, Oregon, left his earthly home to join the Lord, whom he loved, in heaven on January 31, 1998, following a long battle with cancer. Mr. Rabern was born December 21, 1919 in Lyman County near Presho, South Dakota, the son of Nova and Katie (Young) Rabern. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945, some of the time in Europe. In 1962 he moved his family from North Dakota to Myrtle Creek, Oregon. On October 16, 1971, he married Virginia Jones in Portland. He was a skilled bricklayer and a construction contractor until he became a building inspector for Washing County in 1969. He retired in 1984. Don loved working and farming. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a master tinkerer and could fix anything with his “American ingenuity”. He eagerly embraced every day as a new adventure. Don was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; his five children, Cindy Cooke of Tacoma, Washington, Brandlee and Susan Rabern of Issaquah, Washington, Mark and Becky Rabern of Roseburg, Oregon and Cammi and Jeff Libby of Issaquah, Washington; sisters, Jo Park of Custer, South Dakota; seven grandsons; four granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. His family and friends will dearly miss him. Memorial services will be held on Friday, February 6, 1998 at 1:30 p.m. at the Brownleews-Bass Funeral Home, 1070 w. Main, Hillsboro, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or to your local Home Hospice in Mr. Rabern's memory.
