A Sad Accident.
At the home of E. N. Montgomery last Friday evening, a can of kerosene exploded, resulting in the death of Mrs. Montgomery, daughter Clara and Georgie the baby.
Medical assistance was summoned and everything possible was done to relieve the pain and suffering of the injured ones. Clara Montgomery aged 19 years, seven months and 14 days died a few hours after the accident. She was to have been married within a week. Mrs. Montgomery, the mother, died that night about 3 o'clock. She was 37 years and 2 months old and the mother of ten children, six of whom are living. Georgie the baby, had followed its mother to the kitchen and was very badly burned about the head. The child was taken to the residence of Lon Wright and kindly cared for, but died Monday morning about sunrise and was buried in the afternoon.
E. N. Montgomery came here, with his family about two months ago, from Madison, Kansas, and engaged in the produce business and seemed to be working up a good business. A subscription was started last Saturday to give the family financial assistance and about one hundred dollars was raised.
Mrs. Jno. Enright, a daughter arrived on the evening train the day of the accident expecting to make the family a visit. She knew nothing of the accident until her arrival. Her husband arrived the next day from Burlington.
The funeral services were held in the M. E. church and the bodies laid to rest in one grave in the Neosho Falls cemetery Saturday July 24, 1904. The following Monday the baby was placed by their side.
