Mrs. Rose Flynn Barbare, 87, widow of Alexander A. Barbare, died Tuesday, August 21, 1956 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. D. Wister Balentine, 20 Woodfin Avenue, at 12:05 p.m. following two weeks of serious illness.
Mrs. Barbare, a daughter of the late Owen Flynn and Annie Smyth Flynn McGrath, was born in the village of Glenidan near Collinstown, County Westmeath, Ireland. She came to this country at the age of 4 and had made her home in Greenville since.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a charter member of the Catholic Women's Council. She was also a member of the Woodmen Circle.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Wister Balentine (Eva), Mrs. Oscar Lowe (Anne) and Mrs. William Jenkinson (Nelle) of Greenville; four sons, Walter L. Barbare of Travelers Rest, Augustine O. Barbare of Greenville, M. Paul Barbare of Detroit, Michigan, and Maj. Lewis J. Barbare of Anchorage, Alaska; one half-sister, Mrs. Catherine Wallace of Trenton, New Jersey; 26 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three children, Mrs. William L. Gantt (Mary), Estelle Barbare and James T. Barbare; and two brothers, Michael Flynn of Staten Island, NY and John Flynn of Columbia, SC.
Funeral services, including a requiem high mass, will be conducted at Gallivan Memorial Hall Friday at 10 a.m. by the Very Rev. Charles Baum, V.F.
Recitation of the Rosary will be at The Mackey Mortuary at 8 p.m. Thursday, conducted by Father Baum. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Clyde Barbare, Harold Barbare, Richard Barbare, Flynn Barbare, Dennis Barbare, Charles Barbare, Beattie Balentine, John Gantt, Johnny Barbare, and James Gantt.
The body is at the Mackey Mortuary. The family is at the home of her son, A. O. Barbare, 204 West Park Avenue.
