SUICIDE OF A. W. BUCHANAN.

Funeral by the From Masons Today.

The funeral of A. W. Buchanan, who committed suicide Saturday night, at his residence. No. 631 Filbert street, will take place to-day. His death was the result of a pistol-shot in the head. It appears that the family were preparing to retire, and that the deceased went up stairs and secured his revolver from the bureau in the apartment of his mother-in-law, and went at once toward his own room, firing the shot as he reached the threshold. Medical aid was summoned, but without avail, as death ensued In four hours.

The sad event was not wholly unexpected by his Immediate friends, as he had repeatedly shown evidences of insanity daring the past few weeks, which accounts for the precautions taken by his family to conceal his pistol and razor. He had been suffering greatly in both mind and body from a cancer which had formed in his head, the effect of which constantly preying on his mind to such a degree that he bad become subject at times to fits of despondency bordering on insanity, caused him to end his life rather than endure the affliction longer. For over twenty years he bad been a trusted employee of Wells, Fargo it Co.'s Express Company. Honest, upright and affable toward all, his death will call forth many a regret from the friends he leaves behind. The tourist s travelling through our Southern counties will miss his" thousand-and-one courtesies so freely given to all. He leaves a wife and three children.
