When Wade was a teenager, he ran away several times, was always found, and brought back home. Family reported Wade kept running away because of his father's beatings. One time the beating was so severe, his arm was broken. This incident was reported in the newspaper.

His siblings reported their father, Albert Brothers, was an abusive alcoholic and this is the reason that his mother, Emma, abandoned her marriage and children. Wade, Nell, and Dudley all grew up hating both their parents. They hated their father for the abuse and drinking and their mother for abandoning them. This information came from Nell and Dudley.

Finally Wade had success when he ran away. He joined a circus. He worked with the animals (dogs and bears). He also did a little vaudeville. The circus is what brought him to CT from PA. When he had saved up a little money, he sent for Nell and Dudley to join him and they did.

Wade, Nell, and Dudley kept in touch and visited with their older half siblings, Thursie and Clair.

As an adult, Wade became a Machinist and worked for the Farrel-Birmingham Corporation, Inc. in Ansonia, CT.

Sometime after his wife Elizabeth died, Wade moved in with his son Earl and his family.
