Homer Ray Metcalf was born November 9, 1952, in Marshall, Texas, to Roy and Sara Jane Metcalf. He was raised in Beckville and graduated as the valedictorian of Beckville High School in 1971. Mr. Metcalf received both his bachelors and master's degrees in chemistry through Stephen F. Austin State University. He was trained and educated as a chemist and spent his life in farm and home pursuits. He was an avid historian who enjoyed sports and caring for and protecting animals, but enjoyed his family of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Sam Calomino, and nephew-in-law Jim Sharpless.
