Alice Helen Ingels Morgan, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother peacefully reached the end of long, wonderful journey on June 3, 2020 (just a few weeks shy of her 94th birthday, though she might not have wanted that in print), to join the love of her life, Robert Ernest Morgan, who died December 21, 2000. Always elegantly beautiful, she continued to enjoy life, family, friends and travel, especially with her children and grandchildren, after Robert died, but kept his memory joyfully alive. One of her greatest gifts to her children was the example she and Robert provided of a deep and enduring love that made them and everyone around them happier.

Alice’s parents, Jerome J. Ingels and Elisa (Alice) Verest, came to the United States from Belgium during the troubled World War I years, and made their home in Dallas, where Jerome eventually became head chef at the Adolphus Hotel. Alice, born in Dallas on July 22, 1924, spent most of her life in Dallas, taking college classes at North Texas after attending St. Mary’s High School in San Antonio. She told countless stories of growing up in Oak Cliff with sisters Silvie and Helen, who both died in 2015, and brother Jerry Ingels who, with his wife Patsy, survives her. Most of her favorite stories, though, were about her life with Robert, who enlisted in the Navy shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and whom she married on February 2, 1947. Together, they danced, traveled, played bridge, and raised a grateful family.

She was fiercely proud of all her children and, although raised in an era when few women focused on education and career, she encouraged not only her son, but also all her daughters, to strive for career success - while continuing to focus on God and family. She was a practical, pragmatic, and brilliant parent. In 1970, when their youngest child Michelle was a baby, and Alice and Robert feared his heart issues might leave him unable to work, she took advantage of her recent real estate classes at Southern Methodist University and soon became a successful, award-winning real estate agent for Henry S. Miller Realtor. Neither Robert’s early heart problems nor his heart transplant in 1988 kept them from continuing to enjoy family and travel the world. After Robert’s death, she found joy in spending time with her four children, eleven grandchildren, and twenty-two great-grandchildren. We will forever see in photographs and hold in our hearts memories of Alice in Europe, always dancing at weddings, and laughing with family at home, at the Lake House, and on the beach. Never losing her sense of humor, adventure, or love of vacations, she happily plunged in the water to swim with the dolphins in Mexico when she was in her 70s.

She bragged continuously about and is survived by her four children and their families: Cindy Morgan Ohlenforst and husband Dr. Pat Ohlenforst; Dr. Bob Morgan (Robert E. Morgan, Jr.) and wife Brenda Morgan; Dr. Patty Morgan Weber and husband Dr. Gregg Weber; and Michelle Alice Morgan. Her much-loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren are Dr. Kristen Ohlenforst and husband Manny Gonzalez (Quint and Olivia); Dr. Lauren Ohlenforst Carney and husband Kevin Carney (Owen and Cooper); Dr. Megan Ohlenforst Russell and husband Dr. James Russell (John, Connor, and Kate); Ashley Morgan Ternan and husband Jack Ternan (Jack, Huxley, and Alice); Bobby [Robert E. Morgan III] Morgan and wife Mackenzie Morgan (Remi [Robert E. Morgan IV], Spencer, and Magnolia); Allie Morgan Dunklin and husband Dr. Bill Dunklin (Griffin, William, Wells, and Charlotte); Scott Morgan and wife Krista Morgan (Taylor and Erin); Dr. Jill Weber Brunkenhoefer and husband Travis Brunkenhoefer (Kate and Chase); Lisa Weber Zimmerer and husband Johnathan Zimmerer; Audrey Weber Woods and husband Dr. Clifton Woods (Elaine); and Dr. Robyn Weber. Her grandchildren, Kristen, Lauren, Megan, Ashley, Bobby, Allie, Scott, Jill, Audrey, Lisa, and Robyn will be honorary pallbearers.

Heartfelt thanks to her Signature Pointe family, especially Mussie, Brenda, Sonia, Augusta, Asrat, Ollie, Taunya, Yalanda, Rebecca, Gizachew, Vivian, Sue, and many others whose smiles, encouragement, compassion, and laughter brightened Alice’s days and comforted all of us during her seven years there.

A socially-distanced Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Rita Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2020, with celebrant the Rev. Joshua Whitfield, and will be livestreamed. Alice was married at St. Cecelia’s Church in Dallas and spent years as a parishioner at St. James before moving to her much-loved home in Sparkman Club Estates where she and Robert raised their children and joined St. Monica Parish. She also spent years attending Masses at St. Rita and at All Saints, and kept her faith during the happy times of her life, during the heart-breaking stillbirth of an infant daughter, and during the much later loss of her beloved husband.

No flowers, please. In tribute to her Catholic faith and love of education, donations may be made in her name to the Morgan Family Scholarship Fund at Jesuit College Preparatory in Dallas or to The Robert E. and Alice Ingels Morgan Endowed Scholarship at Ursuline Academy in Dallas.
