Mary D. Moriset, age 87, of Farmington, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2020.
Mary was preceded in death by her son, William, her sister Helen, her brother John, and her loving husband of 63 years, Mark A. Moriset.
Mary was born in Cumberland, Ohio in 1932. The daughter of the late Mary and John Demchuk. As a young child she then mover to Detroit and grew up just a stone’s throw away from Detroit City Airport. As a young child, Mary fell in love with figure skating. She took that love and became a figure skating professional for more than 25 years. She spent many hours and days in the ice rink, teaching the sport she loved so dearly. Her other passions were playing tennis, golf, and skiing, which eventually lead to her joining the ski patrol at Alpine Valley.
Mary’s adventurous life lead to traveling the world. She visited Austria & Switzerland, where she loved to ski. She enjoyed breakfast while viewing Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Other places visited by Mary include: China – where she walked the great wall, Spain, Portugal, Paris, Alaska, Singapore, Amsterdam, Netherlands, Rome/Vatican City, Ireland, and Scotland. Mary and her husband, Mark, loved to take cruises, which they did for 2 weeks every year. However, her most cherished vacation, was the first two weeks in the month of May, every year, where Mary & Mark vacationed with their children and grandchildren at their condo in Siesta Key, Florida.
Mary was also a member of the Farmington Hills Country Club (later became Walnut Creek), The Fairlane Club, the DAC (Detroit Athletic Club), and the YMCA.
Mary lived a full life. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
She is the beloved mother of Michael (Lori) Moriset and Margaret Sutton (Jeff Stenzel); cherished grandmother of Michelle, Laura (James Ainscough), Trevor, and Rebecca; dearest sister of Theresa.
Mary’s family will hold a short service graveside at Woodmere Cemetery, Detroit , Saturday, June 13, 1pm. Friends are welcome to join the family for the service.
