William Hamilton Devore was born in Effingham county, Illinois, August 8, 1847, and departed this life January 4, 1918, at his home in Lexington, Neb., age 70 years, four months and twenty-six days. He removed from Illinois with his parents to Iowa when quite small where he grew to manhood. He came to Hamilton county, Nebraska, in the early seventies and remained a few years, returning to Iowa. In the early eighties he again returned to Nebraska and has resided here since. He was married to Elena Andrews in 1888. To this union was born one son, James. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, three brothers and one sister and a step-daughter. There remains to mourn his loss his wife and son, two sisters, Mrs. B. F. Harvey and Mrs. J. W. Miller, both of Phillips, and one brother, Neil Devore of Wood River, Neb. Also a large number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He was a firm believer in the religion of Jesus Christ, was converted in the Methodist church at the age of 18 years. He was kind-hearted and always ready and willing to lend a helping hand in need and was loved most by those who knew him best.
