Date of birth from her deposition of January 18, 1847.

Originally buried on the family farm located on Lower Maple Avenue across from the house (see 1853 map). When the road was widened her husband was transferred to the Baptist Church Cemetery in Wellsburg, New York. It is unknown if Lydia had a memorial stone and she may not have been transferred if they were unaware of her burial.

On 18 January 1847, Lydia Mitchell, Southport, aged 76 years in April next, widow of James Mitchell, who died February 16, 1832, appeared and filed a deposition for a pension for her husband's service in the Revolutionary War. She stated they were married in April 1789 and that during the Revolution her husband resided town of Warwick, Orange County, New York. The following persons were at her wedding - Samuel and Mary Westbrook, her father and mother; her brothers, John, Abram, and Benjamin Westbrook; also her sisters Caty and Eleanor, also Elias and Sarah Middah, and others. Previous to her marriage she resided at Walkill, Orange County and her maiden name was Westbrook, that she moved from Orange County to Chemung County when she was a girl. Signed by mark.

Lydia appeared December 11, 1850 and June 21, 1855 and filed further depositions. In 1855 she stated she was 83 years of age and a resident of Southport, married town of Chemung in 1791, husband died Southport March 16, 1831. Signed by mark.

Lydia was inscribed on the pension rolls at $53.89 per year to commence March 4, 1848, certificate of pension issued May 2, 1851.
