"Page Pioneer" Jolene Ruth (Vivant) Moyer died from a short battle with cancer on June 16, 2019 in Reno, Nevada.

She and her family helped to birth "America's Last Frontier" -- Page, Arizona.
Jolene, her parents, and her two younger siblings, Sally '63 & Jerry '65, arrived in Page the Summer of 1958. Their trailer was parked on "L" Street.

Jolene regularly dated Denney Carpenter, of USBR Page Rangers, while in Page. She told me she thought the real reason he dated her was so he could have long talks with her dad in their trailer. She told me that Denney loved her dad. Denney later married Virginia "Ginny" Gage, also in the PHS Class of 1961.

She was born February 13, 1943, Cross Roads, San Bernardino County, California, to "Page Pioneers" John and Charlene Vivant. She was their third of five children.

While they were living in Page, Jolene's dad, age 44, died suddenly of a heart attack on Tuesday, April 28, 1959, at the Dixie Service Station, Hwy 66, East, in Flagstaff, AZ. Jolene moved back with her mother and siblings to her maternal grandparents' property in Yerington, Nevada, where they parked their mobile home.

She graduated from Yerington HS, Yerington, NV in the same Class of 1961 as her sister, Sally's, future husband, Grant Bauman #146675765. She was listed in the newspaper on the B Honor Roll the second six weeks of her YHS Senior year, Dec. 1960. She attended Santa Monica City College, Los Angeles, CA, and newspapers for Thanksgiving and CHRISTmas 1961 reported her back home visiting her parents on school vacations.

She was married to James Leonard "Jimmy" Moyer by January 1964.
They had four children together before their divorce on July 29, 1996, Reno, NV.
He was born June 6, 1942; his mother's maiden name was Shumake.
In 1973 & 1974 he was listed as a Maintenance Engineer in Reno, NV.

Jolene's children celebrated her retirement on April 20, 2012 with a party.

Surviving Jolene are her daughters: Jackie Lynn Moyer Chapman (57) and Jennifer Lee "Jeny" Moyer-Ellis; her sons, Jefferey Robert "Jeff" Moyer (53) and James Leonard "Jamey" Moyer (51); granddaughters, Lisa Ellis, Mallory Stiffler; sister, Sally Vivant (Myron) Walker '63 and brother, Jerry (Bonnie) Vivant '65.

This is a home video of a family barbeque when Jolene and her sister, Sally, were teenagers. Sally is "in your face" with a man in baseball cap, wearing glasses (far left), who might be her father (but I think her father is the man at the grill in a white t-shirt). Charlene, their mother, is wearing white shorts, plaid shirt and carrying food. Jerry might be standing to his mom's right in a white shirt, and Jolene might be the girl in a dark dress with long hair parted on the left side. (THIS LINK CAN ONLY BE USED ON FACEBOOK):

Jolene's daughter, Jen Moyer-Ellis (is feeling broken), wrote on December 16, 2019:
"8 months ago you left me, and every minute of every day has sucked. I can be in a room full of people and still feel all alone. I am so sad all the time; I miss you so much. They say time heals all wounds--well, they lied. It hurts just as much today as it did in April. Life sucks without you, mommy."

Jolene's granddaughter (Jen's daughter), Mallory Stiffler, wrote on December 22, 2019:
"On this day a year ago my entire world began to fall apart. My grandma was rushed to the ER via ambulance with (what we thought was one) blood clot in her leg. Two stents placed in both legs and SEVERAL clots removed. This was ONLY the beginning of us finding out she had stage 4 lung cancer that had spread throughout her body with the worst of three masses in her brain, on top of heart disease, COPD and several other issues. Four months later, I lost my best friend in the entire world, the woman who more than helped raise me, who cared for my siblings and I with no questions asked, the woman who loved my kids with her whole heart, and the lady who gave up things to make sure us kids were taken care of. I’m forever in debt to my grandma and will cherish her for the rest of my life.
Don’t take people for granted; don’t let a day pass without telling loved ones how much they mean. Life is shorter than we realize, and sometimes we don’t get a second chance.
I love you forever and always grandma! "

"Happy Mother’s Day to the best grandma in the whole world! You helped raise and shape me into the person I am today. You taught me so much about life and were my go-to person. I miss you everyday; things just aren’t the same without you! I love you grandma! "
