Ruth E. Abbondante, a retired secretary and devoted family person, passed away at Wilmington Healthcare on Tuesday morning, February 12, 2013. She was 81 years old.
Ruth was born in Arlington, the daughter of the late Thomas and Harriett Gray. She
grew up in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School. She had
worked as a secretary at John Hancock and National Semiconductor.
Ruth married Cosmo Abbondante in February of 1959 and they settled in Burlington to
start a family. She shared 50 years of marital bliss with Cosmo until his
passing in 2009. Her children, grandchildren and great granddaughter meant
everything to Ruth. She always wanted to make them happy and enrich their
lives.
The family had a 32-year tradition of spending summer vacations in
Ogunquit, Maine. She enjoyed the simple things of playing cards with her family
and going to Bingo with her friends. She especially enjoyed being a grandmother
and recently a great grandmother. She leaves her family with endless memories
filled with love.
Ruth was the beloved wife of the late Cosmo. She was the loving mother of Karen
Maranto of Lowell and John & his wife Kristen of Wakefield. She was the
sister of the late Robert Gray and Olive Cormier. She was the proud grandmother
of Allyson Maranto of Sandown, NH, Nicholas Maranto of Lowell, and Evan
Abbondante of Wakefield. And great grandmother of Olivia Bova.
Funeral services at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington on
Friday, February 15 at 11 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St.
Malachy's Church at noon. Visiting hours Thursday from 4-8 pm Interment in Pine
Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
