Stephen Bancroft (Bancraft), b. Granville 1753, inherited a good farm from his father Thomas, which he did not succeed in keeping, and therefore migrated from Granville, MA before 1795 to Manlius, Ontario County,(now Onondaga County), New York, following his brother-in-law, James Foster and sister, Elizabeth Bancroft Foster. Son, Thomas, brought his mother, Sarah to Manlius on an oxcart in early Sept 1795, 2 weeks after she gave birth to daughter, Roxena. Stephen and Sarah were in the 1800 census in Manlius. They then moved with their son, Thomas, to Walworth, Ontario County (now Wayne County) about 1807, were they remained until their deaths in 1831 and 1837 respectively. They are buried in the Baker Cemetery on the Penfield-Walworth Rd. (Rt 441) in beautiful picturesque countryside. He is a DAR accepted patriot, having served 5 months, 25 days, July - December 1780 in the Continental Line.
