He was born in Westfield 91 years ago, son of the late John and Peninah Smith Miller, and for many years lived in the original Miller homestead on the site of the present Wychwood estates, opposite Fairview Cemetery in upper Broad street. His principal endeavors during his active life were devoted to farming. Both he and his father were born in the same homestead.
Mr. Miller and Miss Ida Welch , daughter of the late Charles G. and Elizabeth Shipman Welch, were married Jan 17,1883, by Rev Newton Cadwell, the first couple to be wed by Mr. Cadwell as pastor of the Westfield Presbyterian Church. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Jan 17, 1933. Mrs miller died about six years ago. Mrs Miller's father came from England and her mother from Virginia, Mrs. Miller came to this area as a youth. She was the sister of the late William S. and L.F. Welch, who were prominently identified with the life of Westfield.
Mr. Miller is survived by his son Harry J. Miller, head of Harry Miller Motors, Inc., of 301 south Avenue west and by his granddaughter, rs. Jayne Miller Klinder, now in Jersey City. Mr. and Mrs Miller formerly in later years lived with their son in Central Avenue here, and Mr. Miller's last two years were spent at Murray Hill.
Rev. Dr. W.K. McKinney of the Presbyterian Church conducted services yesterday at Gray's Funeral Home, 318 East Broad street. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.
