His pencil and half-tone line drawings and charcoal illustrations appeared regularly in books and magazines, including LIFE Magazine. He was a member of the Society of Illustrators.
In an interview with a LIFE Magazine writer, Bayard Jones was described as, “One of the most valued contributors to the pictorial side of LIFE.” The writer further noted, “His half-tones have a quality and a humor of their own—a kind of mingling of sentiment and satire.” When asked where he got his sense of humor, Jones noted that he got it from his uncle, Bill Arp (a noted humorist of the 1800’s). [Interview: Vol. 60, No. 1517, November, 28, 1912 issue, p. 2294, "The Daily Blast" section, "LIFE’s Family Album" column]
