Richland Center - Fry, Harold Ivan passed into eternal life, at home, on Sun., April 4, 2004. Harold was born in Orion township on April 18, 1908, to Frank David Fry and Victoria Bell Robinson. He attended Richland Center High School and on June 1, 1927, married his sweetheart and lifelong love, Erma Evelyn Armstrong. Harold was active in the Richland Center area community, volunteering many hours, He was a charter member of the Friends of Animals and Richland County Crime Stoppers. He played his button style accordion in bands on and off during his entire lifetime, and in later years, played at area nursing homes and senior centers. He loved animals and nature and spent many hours feeding and nurturing his cats, squirrels, birds and his little dog, Smurf. Harold was a member of the Sextonville United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the choir and often taught adult Sunday school. He later attended the Gotham Methodist Church. He learned to fly at the Sextonville airport and enjoyed flying along the beautiful Wisconsin River. Harold was a lifelong student, always seeking knowledge. He was an avid reader and after retirement he attended classes at UW-Richland studying English literature and religions of the world. His love of poetry followed him through his lifetime, still being able to recite many poems from memory that he learned during his school years. His study and knowledge of astronomy benefited many area children. Many evenings he set up his large telescope at the Sextonville school to show and teach children about our planetary system. Harold and Erma operated Sextonville Garage, Fry's General Store and later, the Curtis Mathis Television Sales and Service. In retirement, they traveled in their motor home to nearly every state in the USA. Harold greatly cherished his friends and spent his life developing friendships and instilling in his children and grandchildren the importance of those relationships. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, setting examples for all of us and left a legacy of a life well lived. He is survived by three daughters, Juanita Boelman, Twila Gillingham (J.B.) and Charlene Easterday (Barney); a brother, Gerald Fry; and two sisters, Fern Bingham and Shirley Bindl; He is also survived by six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma; two children, Donna Jean and Ivan; two grandchildren, Nancy and Gail Gilbertson; two brothers, Clyde and Floyd; and two sisters, Ruby White and Melva Keller. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thur., April 8, 2004, at the Pratt Funeral Home, in Richland Center. Burial will be in the Richland Center Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wed., April 7, 2004, from 6-8 p.m. "Even youth will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint."
