Richard Mark "Rick" Bertram, 53, of Waterloo, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home of cancer.

He was born Nov. 18, 1957, son of Alton and Cora Chilson Bertram. He married Susan Greer on May 21, 2004, in Waterloo.

Mr. Bertram attended school in Grundy Center and Cedar Falls. He worked in commercial and residential plumbing, heating and cooling, mostly in Waterloo, for 20 years. Most recently he was the manager of the 18th Street shop for Gray Transportation where he oversaw trailer repairs.

Survived by his wife; two sons, Aaron (Lisa) Bertram of Huxley and Justin Huey of Cedar Falls; three daughters, Melissa (Todd) Whitson of Waterloo and Jessica and Jennifer Bertram, both of Cedar Falls; three grandchildren, Madison, Marissa and Connor Whitson, all of Waterloo; two brothers, Roger (Angela) of Oelwein and William (Dena) of Dike; five sisters, Ruth (Terry) Reagan of Oelwein, Mary Bertram and Becky Pack, both of Phoenix, Sandy (Jeff deNeui) of Conrad and Elizabeth (Gordon) Reints of Susuin, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Terry Bertram; and a sister, Sarah Warren.

Services 1 p.m. Saturday at Parrott & Wood Chapel of Memories, an Overton Family Service, Waterloo, with burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Grundy Center, at a later date. Visitation 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Rick was an avid NASCAR fan, and his favorite driver was Tony Stewart. He was a caring and compassionate man and gave respect to all he met. Rick enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and his greatest passions in life were his three grandchildren.
