Norene A. Koenig, 88, of Loganville, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at Our House Assisted Living on Mack Drive in Reedsburg - the place she and Carl called home for nearly four years. Norene was born on May 5, 1932 in North Freedom to Harvey A. & Hilda (Dettmann) Myers. She was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Rock Springs and was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in North Freedom. She grew up in North Freedom and was a graduate of Baraboo High School, class of 1949. On June 6, 1952, she married Carl A. Koenig at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in North Freedom. Their life was spent on Carl's home farm in rural Loganville. Norene was a charter member of the Elder Ridge Homemakers Club, a member of the Zion Lutheran Stone Church Ladies Aid, served on the church council as a treasurer for many years. She also worked many years on the Town of Westfield election board. Over the years she enjoyed crocheting, stitchery and quilting. She was a great cook and baker and filled her fruit cellar many times over with canned goods. As a farm wife she spent countless hours assisting with milking cows twice a day and operating tractors while pulling a plow, disk, hay crusher, baler or chopper. She also had the pleasure of family time picking stones and always made sure there was a lunch along. Norene is survived by her husband of sixty-eight years, Carl; children: Jo Ellen Koenig Schreier (now known as Grace Goodenough) of Manhattan, KS; Carl Bruce (Laura) Koenig of Loganville; Kathleen (Richard) Price of Lone Oak, TX; Ann Koenig (Gordon Muck) of Corning, NY; twelve grandchildren; twenty-eight great- grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; her brother: Harvey F. (Carol) Myers of Reedsburg; nephews: David and Darrell Meyers and niece: Audrey Ogden, along with their families. She was preceded in death by her parents and a great-grandson: Ethan. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Our House for what they do. Taking care of seniors is a special gift and Norene said many times "they take good care of us." Also thank you to Agrace for their end of life care for both Norene and her family and to Dr. Spencer Fast for his compassionate care. Because of the current COVID 19 restrictions, a private family burial will be held in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in rural Rock Springs. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
