Lois Margaret Berg Johnson

Lois Margaret Berg Johnson, a long time Kernville resident passed away on Aug. 15, 2007 at the Rosewood Skilled Nursing facility in Bakersfield, Calif. She was 88 and died peacefully in her sleep after suffering from a cerebral hemorrhage on July 29. Lois was born a firecracker on the 4th of July in 1919 to Ethel Logan and Sid Berg in Duluth, Minn. She was a true Yankee Doodle Dandy!
Her family moved to Inglewood, Calif. during the Depression to seek work like many others during those tough times. From there, her family moved to Oakland where her father helped to build the Oakland Bay Bridge. She returned to Inglewood to finish her education and graduated from Inglewood High School in 1937. After graduation, she was employed by Columbia Broadcasting Company in Hollywood for three years. During that time she met and married Robert F. Johnson in 1940. They had two children, Diane Victoria Johnson and Mark Robert Johnson.
They remained in Inglewood, running their family business until 1966 when they moved to Kernville and opened Johnson's Sporting Goods in the Whiskey Flat Post Office log cabin building that had been moved from old Kernville. Together, they operated the sporting goods store until 1978 when health problems forced them to close the store. She later worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Kernville as a receptionist for 18 years, retiring at the age of 78 in 1998. Shortly after her retirement, Robert Johnson her husband of 58 years passed away and was buried in the Kern Valley Cemetery. She will always be remembered by those who worked with her and knew her that her cheerful and optimistic spirit always lifted everyone who she encountered.
Lois was a Pink Lady at the hospital in the Valley for many years. Lois was an active member of First Lutheran Church Inglewood, California for many years before they moved to Kernville. She was also a Charter member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Lake Isabella. Lois was a choir member for many years and served in many capacities in the church over the years. She recently joined the Methodist Church in Kernville, which was next door to her home.
Lois is survived by her son Mark Johnson of Kernville and her daughter Diane V. Aune and husband Phil from Nine Mile Falls, Wa. Her grandchildren include Laura Haskell of Sacramento; Todd P. Aune of Nine Mile Falls, Wash.; Alissa Aune of Grover Beach Calif.; Jeniffer Johnson of Big Bar, Calif. and Jessica Johnson of Redding, Calif. She has three great-grand children Jared Robert Haskell, and Shane and Ronnie Melton. She had many caring and loving nieces, nephews and cousins located across the country. She will truly be missed by all. Graveside services were held on Aug. 21 at the Kern River Valley Cemetery. The family requests that memorial contributions be sent to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, P.O. Box S, 377 Highway 155, Lake Isabella, California 93240-8499.

They had two children, Diane Victoria Johnson and Mark Robert Johnson.
They remained in Inglewood, running their family business until 1966 when they moved to Kernville and opened Johnson's Sporting Goods in the Whiskey Flat Post Office log cabin building that had been moved from old Kernville. Together, they operated the sporting goods store until 1978 when health problems forced them to close the store. She later worked for the U.S. Forest Service in Kernville as a receptionist for 18 years, retiring at the age of 78 in 1998. Shortly after her retirement, Robert Johnson her husband of 58 years passed away and was buried in the Kern Valley Cemetery. She will always be remembered by those who worked with her and knew her that her cheerful and optimistic spirit always lifted everyone who she encountered.
