Daughter of Christian Gingrich Kurtz (1856–1914) and Hannah Jane (Puterbaugh) Kurtz (1860–1920).

She was married on October 21, 1910 at Roswell, Chaves County, New Mexico to Willie Macon McCaw (1881–1948).

Services for Mrs. William McCaw, 47, pioneer resident of Artesia, New Mexico were held at the Presbyterian Church. Her death was a distinct shock to the entire community and her passing touched the community in a real sense. Mrs. McCaw was taken ill on July 4th and shortly afterward was moved from the McCaw home, southeast of Artesia to the home of her sister-in-law, Miss Linna McCaw in Artesia.

Will McCaw moved to the Pecos Valley in 1906. Will McCaw married Winnie Kurtz in 1910. To this union, seven children were born.
