John T. Baskett, 82, of Lafayette, died at 5:00 p.m. Friday, June 30, 2006, in his residence.
Born December 12, 1923, in Tompkinsville, Kentucky, he was the son of James I. and Beadie I. Emberton Baskett. On Dec. 18, 1948, in Hardin County, Kentucky, he married Emma Harper, who survives.
John was a member of Union Local #115, and a Life Member of VFW Post 11. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and watching ball games.
John was a United States Army veteran, having served his country during World War II. He was retired from ALCOA, where he had worked for 30 years.
Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Wanda Posto and her husband Norman, of Lafayette; three sons, Gary Baskett, Greenwood, Terry Baskett, Lafayette, and Jerry Baskett and his wife Valerie, of Lafayette; one half-brother, Jim Baskett, Atlanta, GA; two half-sisters, Gladys Baskett of Tompkinsville, KY and Lorine Lyons, Greenfield; and nine grandchildren.
One daughter preceded in death.
Funeral Information
Friends will be received from noon until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4, 2006, at the Fisher-Loy Funeral Chapel, Lafayette, Indiana. Services will be held at Fisher-Loy Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, at 11 a.m. with Celebrant Carla Barker officiating. Interment will follow in the Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
